Is anyone or anyone you know selling a manual transmission car for $3,000 or less? I’m looking for a friend of mine; it’ll be her first car, but she also wants to autocross. I’m thinking something like a Neon or SVT Contour and such would be ideal, but even something like a Corolla or Accord would do the trick.
Thank you!

AutoTrader lists tons of them, at least for Oregon.. same with Craigslist.

I was looking for a more personal connection here on Oppo, because believe me, I’m looking on the usual ads.

Fair enough.. a location may be helpful though...

I don’t mind a good road trip. Helps being in the Midwest; not more than 1,500 miles from anything :)

1500 miles? That’s putting a lot of faith in a $3000 car.

Why not an E46?

I have been pushing E36s and also (even though they’re mostly autos) E38s. The glory of liability-only insurance makes them very cheap to insure.

Yep. I was just thinking for a $3000 autocross car, an RWD platform would probably be in better shape. I’d probably go for an E46, just because all of the E36's I've seen for sale are totally clapped out. Remember on CL to search for $4000 cars - a lot of those you'll be able to actually get for $3000.

Honda Civics (EK/EG/EM) are dime a dozen, buy a beater and let her learn on that. Corolla XRS are actually pretty fun considering you get the Celica GT-S’s engine in a regular economy car...also the Celica GT-S is a good learner’s car.
